The Greatest Invitation Ever Given For many centuries in the Christian church, thSeries Introduction

For many centuries in the Christian church, these verses have often been described as the ‘comfortable words of the Lord Jesus.’ Of course, the phrase, ‘comfortable words,’ is used in the old-fashioned sense not of words that send you to sleep with ease, but words that give you strength for your weakness, light for your darkness, and hope for your despair. These words are spoken by the one who alone can make the heavenly Father known to us. Here, Jesus gives you the greatest invitation ever: ‘come to me.’ It is an invitation to you to unburden your needs to him. It is an invitation to you to receive from him light for your darkness, hope in your despair, and rest in your restlessness.

"You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts

are restless until they rest in you."

- Augustine
