Distinctives of a Reformed Spirituality

To commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the nailing of Luther’s 95 Theses on the church door at Wittenberg and to celebrate the five-solas that fueled that first Reformation, we wanted to consider the kind of Christian life exemplified in those who believe as we do about the Bible. Indeed, this great message is still needed for another Reformation. The grand truths of Sola Scriptura, Soli Deo Gloria, Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, & Solus Christus, remain the foundation of biblical churches today.

What are the distinctives of a Reformed spirituality? No doubt there are many other topics we might have chosen, but the ‘distinctives’ we chose to present are: 1) a profound sense of sin; 2) a deep and serious joy; 3) an abiding and extravagant gratitude; 4) corporate character of grace; 5) serious and biblical worship. Though we may have included other truths, we could not omit, nor could we begin in any other way than a consideration of a high view of and deep reverence for God.
